I have Celiac Disease. Why do my results show gluten containing items are okay for me?

Gluten Containing Items & Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is an immune reaction to eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time, this reaction damages your small intestine's lining and prevents it from absorbing some nutrients (malabsorption). The intestinal damage often causes diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, bloating and anemia, and can lead to serious complications.

Our testing does not test for immune system responses or allergies. We test only for food and drink sensitivities and intolerances. You can actually have an immune system response or allergy to gluten, but not an intolerance or sensitivity.

For individuals that have not consumed gluten for an extended period of time, it typically will not show up on their results report.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you have a known allergy, immune response, or medical condition that does not allow you to or recommend that you consume gluten containing products, please follow the advice of your medical professional or healthcare provider.

These results should not take the place of medical recommendations or treatments.

Allergies, immune responses, and medical conditions can have life threatening consequences if you do not follow medical advice.
