What is the difference between allergies and intolerances?

Allergies vs intolerances. What's the difference?

Some of the symptoms of allergies and intolerances are similar, but the differences between the two are very important. Healthogenics only provides testing for intolerances which represent the majority of reactions that people and pets will experience. An intolerance is a response that does not take place in the body’s immune system and may appear several hours or days after ingestion or exposure. While intolerances may cause reactions ranging from a mild skin rash to severe abdominal discomfort, they are not normally life-threatening.

A true allergy is an immune system response. The adverse reaction is usually immediate and can be life-threatening. Healthogenics does NOT test for allergies or this type of immune reaction(IgE or IgG).
