Sodium Deficiency

Sodium Cellular Deficiency and Its Causes

If your results indicate that you are cellularly deficient in sodium, it could be related to a number of different things that could be impacting how well your body is utilizing the available sodium from your diet or supplementation.

Some potential causes of sodium cellular deficiency are:

  • Over-exercise, which has been linked to electrolyte depletion
  • Chronic or long periods of stress
  • Diuertic usage
  • Gut biome and digestive process imbalances
  • Diarrhea
  • Excessive water intake
  • Lack of dietary sodium
  • Underlying medical condition

While it might be difficult to determine what is causing your body to show a cellular deficiency in sodium, there are some things that you can do to help correct this cellular imbalance.  Some steps you can take are:

  • Eating sodium rich foods such as cheese, dairy, seafood, beets, carrots and celery
  • Manage stress
  • Hydrate will an electrolyte drink during and after workouts or periods of physical exertion that may cause you to sweat
  • Monitor your water intake
  • Address GI issues you may be experiencing
  • Balance and support your gut biome and digestive process
